After breakfast, a guided orientation snorkel on your resort's house reef — the easiest way to see Baa Atoll's marine life without leaving the property. Expect reef fish, turtles and healthy coral gardens just steps from your villa, with the rest of the day free to explore the island.
A guided boat excursion into Hanifaru Bay, the core protected zone of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, with a certified guide and capped group numbers as required by the site's conservation rules. This excursion runs seasonally — see the note below — and sightings of manta rays and whale sharks, while common in season, are never guaranteed.
Most Baa Atoll resorts run their own marine biology programme — a talk or guided session on the atoll's reef ecology and conservation work, followed by a snorkelling excursion to a nearby reef or channel. A relaxed, low-key day built around water rather than a schedule.

Before you go
Manta season, honestly
Hanifaru Bay's manta and whale shark activity runs roughly June to November, peaking around July and August, driven by monsoon currents and lunar tides. Outside this window the bay is quieter, though reef mantas are still seen at cleaning stations elsewhere in the atoll. We'll advise on timing for your dates.
Currency
The Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR), though US dollars are widely used and cards are accepted at resorts. Most costs on a resort island run on a room tab settled at checkout.
Wildlife is wild
Manta rays and whale sharks are wild animals in a protected reserve — sightings are common in season but never guaranteed. Biosphere Reserve rules require a minimum distance, no touching, and snorkelling only in Hanifaru Bay's core zone.
Getting there
Baa Atoll is reached from Malé by seaplane (around 25–30 minutes) or by scheduled speedboat via Dharavandhoo (roughly 2–2.5 hours), depending on your resort. We handle the booking and timing either way.
What to pack
Reef-safe sunscreen (many resorts require it), a rash guard for longer snorkels, a light cover-up for boat transfers, and a dry bag for cameras and phones on excursions.

Yes — that's a starting price, per person, for the 6-day itinerary based on twin-share accommodation. It covers your resort stay, daily breakfast, airport and inter-atoll transfers, the excursions in the itinerary, selected entrance fees and local assistance. The final figure depends on your travel dates, resort and villa category, group size and whether you'd like it private, so we confirm an exact quote when you enquire.
Will we definitely see manta rays or whale sharks?
We can't promise it, and any operator who does isn't being straight with you. During the manta season — roughly June to November, peaking July and August — sightings at Hanifaru Bay are common, sometimes with over a hundred mantas in a single session. Outside that window, or on any given day even in season, these are wild animals responding to plankton and tide conditions, not a scheduled show. Reef mantas are also seen at cleaning stations around the atoll outside the main season.
Are international flights included?
No — international flights aren't included unless we've specifically stated so in your quote. We can advise on convenient arrival times into Malé and arrange your onward seaplane or speedboat transfer to match your flights.
Is this suitable for non-divers, or do we need to be certified?
You don't need to dive at all. Hanifaru Bay is a snorkel-only site under Biosphere Reserve rules — diving isn't permitted there — and the house-reef and reef excursions are snorkelling too. Comfortable swimmers of most ages can take part; let us know if anyone in your group needs extra support and we'll flag it to the resort.
Can this itinerary be customised or run privately?
