Most first-time visitors to Korea never leave Seoul. This trip takes you east, over the Taebaek Mountains to Gangwon Province's coastline — a Korea of granite peaks, fishing harbours, quiet beaches and some of the country's best café culture, all a few hours from the capital.
You'll walk beneath the six-peaked granite ridge of Ulsanbawi in Seoraksan National Park, one of Korea's most dramatic landscapes, then wind down in Sokcho's fishing harbour and beaches. In Gangneung, the pace slows further — Gyeongpo Beach, the roastery-lined Anmok Coffee Street, and Jeongdongjin, reputed to be Korea's best spot to watch the sunrise. The trip returns to Seoul to close, so the capital's sights are there if you'd like to extend.
Airport transfers, centrally located accommodation, daily breakfast and guided sightseeing are arranged for you. Seoraksan National Park
Korea's most celebrated mountain park — the six-peaked granite ridge of Ulsanbawi, rising to about 874 metres, reached by cable car or on foot, with the ancient Sinheungsa Temple and its great bronze Buddha at the trailhead.
Sokcho's harbour & beaches
A working fishing city on the East Sea — the Sokcho Tourist Fishery Market for fresh seafood and street food, and the city's own sandy beach, open since 1976.
Anmok Coffee Street, Gangneung
Gangneung is Korea's unofficial coffee capital, and Anmok Beach is its heart — a stretch of roasteries and cafés with tables looking straight out over the East Sea.
Jeongdongjin sunrise
Widely considered Korea's best sunrise spot, and home to the record-holding train station closest to the sea — a short, memorable early start on the coast.
Your 7-day itinerary
Mountains, then the coast, then back to the capital — with breakfast daily and all listed transfers included.
You're met at Incheon International Airport and transferred to your centrally located Seoul hotel. Settle in and rest after your flight — tomorrow heads east to the coast.
A scenic road transfer east across the Taebaek Mountains to Sokcho, on Korea's East Sea coast (around two and a half to three hours). In the afternoon, an easy first look at the city — the fishing harbour and Sokcho Beach, open since the 1970s.
A full day in Seoraksan National Park. Visit Sinheungsa Temple and its great bronze Buddha at the trailhead, then ride the cable car — or hike — toward Ulsanbawi, the park's six-peaked granite landmark, for sweeping views over the peaks and the East Sea.
A morning at the Sokcho Tourist Fishery Market for fresh seafood and street food, before an easy coastal transfer south to Gangneung (around an hour and a half). Check in, then an early evening at Gyeongpo Beach.
A day at Gangneung's own pace: coffee at Anmok Coffee Street, looking straight out over the East Sea, a stroll or cycle around Gyeongpo Lake, and a visit to Ojukheon House, a well-preserved 16th-century hanok. In the evening, an optional walk along the coast to watch the sunset.
An early start for the sunrise at Jeongdongjin — reputed to be Korea's finest — and a look at the world-record train station closest to the sea. Late morning, transfer back to Seoul by road or KTX high-speed rail (under two hours), with the rest of the day free to explore the capital.
Enjoy a final breakfast and, depending on your flight, a little free time for last-minute shopping in Seoul. You're then transferred to Incheon International Airport for your onward journey — or, if you'd like to extend, we can add nights in Seoul or link this trip to other parts of Korea.

Before you go
Best time to visit
Spring (cherry blossom around Gyeongpo Lake) and autumn foliage in Seoraksan are the most popular seasons on this route. Summer suits the beaches; winters are cold but the coast and sunrise at Jeongdongjin are striking year-round. We'll advise on timing for your dates.
Currency
The South Korean Won (KRW). Cards are accepted almost everywhere, including small cafés and markets; a little cash is handy for street food stalls and local markets.
The Seoraksan cable car
The ride to Gwongeumseong Fortress is short but popular, and queues build quickly — it's usually best as the first stop of the day. It's weather-dependent and won't run in high wind, so the itinerary allows flexibility for hiking instead if needed.
What to pack
Comfortable walking or light hiking shoes for Seoraksan, a warm layer for early sunrise viewing at Jeongdongjin, and swimwear if you'd like a dip at Sokcho or Gyeongpo Beach.

Yes — that's a starting price, per person, for the 7-day itinerary based on twin-share accommodation. It covers your hotels, daily breakfast, airport and listed transfers, the sightseeing in the itinerary, selected entrance fees and local assistance. The final figure depends on your travel dates, hotel choice, group size and whether you'd like it private, so we confirm an exact quote when you enquire.
How do we get between Seoul and the east coast?
Seoul to Sokcho runs by road across the Taebaek Mountains, around two and a half to three hours. Sokcho to Gangneung is a shorter coastal transfer, and Gangneung back to Seoul can run by road or by KTX high-speed rail, which takes under two hours. We arrange all of these for you.
Is this trip mostly hiking, or can I skip the strenuous parts?
It's designed to be accessible. The Seoraksan cable car reaches the park's best viewpoints without a full hike, and everything in Gangneung — the beaches, coffee street and lake — is easy, level walking. If you'd like a longer trail added, such as the Ulsanbawi hike itself, we can build that in for a more active version.
Are international flights included?
No — international flights aren't included unless we've specifically stated so in your quote. We can advise on convenient arrival times into Incheon and arrange your airport transfers to match your flights.
Can this itinerary be customised or run privately?

Do I need a visa for South Korea?
It depends on your nationality. Many travellers can enter South Korea visa-free for short stays, sometimes with a K-ETA electronic authorisation required in advance, but requirements change, so please verify based on your own passport before you travel.
