You'll glide across Dal Lake by shikara past floating gardens and centuries-old houseboats, walk the terraced fountains of Srinagar's Mughal gardens, ride Asia's highest cable car up to Gulmarg's Apharwat Peak, and spend two unhurried days among the meadows and pine forests of Pahalgam on the Lidder River. Dal Lake, by shikara
An 18-square-kilometre lake ringed by houseboats and floating gardens, best explored the way locals have for centuries — gliding between them in a colourful, cushioned shikara.
Srinagar's Mughal gardens
Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh, terraced gardens built by Emperor Jahangir's court in the 1600s, with fountains, chinar trees and views across Dal Lake to the Zabarwan hills.
The Gulmarg Gondola
A two-stage cable car — one of the world's highest — rising from Gulmarg to the shoulder of Apharwat Peak at nearly 4,000 metres, through pine forest to a wall of snow-capped Himalayan peaks.
Pahalgam's meadows & the Lidder River
Betaab Valley and Aru Valley — pine forest, snow-capped peaks and the Lidder River running through — with two easy days to walk, ride and simply take in the valley.
Your 7-day itinerary
A gentle pace — lake and garden days in Srinagar, a mountain day in Gulmarg, and two unhurried days in Pahalgam — with breakfast daily and all listed transfers included.
You're met at Srinagar Airport and transferred to your hotel or houseboat on Dal Lake. Settle in, then ease into the valley with an evening shikara ride as the light softens over the water — a gentle first taste of Kashmir.
After breakfast, a guided tour through Srinagar's celebrated Mughal gardens — Shalimar Bagh, the largest in Kashmir, and Nishat Bagh, terraced down to the shore of Dal Lake with views across to the Zabarwan hills. The pace is unhurried, with time to walk each garden's fountains and chinar-lined paths.
A full shikara circuit of Dal Lake, passing the floating vegetable market, floating gardens and rows of hand-carved houseboats, with a stop at one of the lake's small islands. In the afternoon, an optional walk through Srinagar's old city — Jama Masjid and the wooden-fronted lanes of the bazaar.
A scenic drive to Gulmarg, the "Meadow of Flowers," for the two-stage Gulmarg Gondola — one of the highest cable cars in the world. Phase one rises to Kongdori through pine forest; phase two, weather permitting, continues to the shoulder of Apharwat Peak at nearly 4,000 metres, for sweeping Himalayan views. Return to Srinagar in the evening.
A scenic drive south to Pahalgam, the "Valley of Shepherds," on the banks of the Lidder River. In the afternoon, an easy visit to Betaab Valley — pine forest, snow-capped peaks and the river running through meadows that once featured in Bollywood film.
A full day around Pahalgam: Aru Valley, a quieter, less-visited valley that's also the trailhead for treks toward the Kolahoi Glacier, followed by free time along the Lidder River — a walk, an optional pony ride, or simply taking in the mountain air.
Enjoy a final breakfast before the drive back to Srinagar for your departure flight. Prefer to spend your last night on a houseboat on Dal Lake, or extend into a wider Kashmir or North India trip? We can build that in.

The Gulmarg Gondola's second stage to Apharwat Peak is genuinely weather-dependent and closes regularly for wind, visibility and avalanche control — it is not guaranteed on any given day, and phase one alone is still a scenic, worthwhile ride.

Gulmarg Gondola tickets and Pahalgam's local sightseeing transport (a long-standing local taxi-union requirement within the valley) are confirmed with your operator as either included or payable locally, so it's clear before you book.

Best time to visit
Kashmir is a year-round destination with a different character each season — spring (April–May) for blossom and tulips, summer (June–August) for full green and mild days, and winter (December–February) for snow and skiing at Gulmarg. We'll advise on timing for your dates.
Currency
The Indian Rupee (INR / ₹). Cards are accepted in hotels and larger shops in Srinagar; carry cash for houseboats, markets, small vendors and Gulmarg/Pahalgam, where card acceptance is patchier.
Altitude & cold
Gulmarg's gondola climbs to nearly 4,000 metres — some travellers feel the altitude, so take Phase 2 slowly and stay hydrated. Warm layers are worth packing even in summer for Gulmarg and Pahalgam's evenings.
What to pack
Layers year-round, waterproof or insulated footwear for Gulmarg, sun protection (the mountain sun and snow glare are stronger than they look), and a light scarf or shawl handy for mosque and shrine visits.
Houseboats
Staying on a Dal Lake houseboat is a genuinely different experience from a hotel — cushioned interiors, a shikara to reach shore, and breakfast on the water. We can arrange a houseboat stay in place of a hotel night on request.

Foreign nationals need a valid Indian visa (commonly the e-Visa) to enter, arranged in advance — requirements and eligible nationalities change, so please confirm based on your passport before booking. We're happy to point you to the right official source.

Yes — that's a starting price, per person, for the 7-day itinerary based on twin-share accommodation. It covers your hotels, daily breakfast, airport and listed transfers, the sightseeing in the itinerary, selected entrance fees and local assistance. The final figure depends on your travel dates, hotel or houseboat choice, group size and whether you'd like it private, so we confirm an exact quote when you enquire.
Will the Gulmarg Gondola definitely be running?
Phase one, up to Kongdori, runs reliably and is a scenic ride in its own right. Phase two, up to Apharwat Peak, is genuinely weather-dependent and closes regularly for wind, visibility or avalanche control — it can't be guaranteed on any given day. We'll always attempt it, but build in the honest expectation that it may not run.
Can we stay on a houseboat instead of a hotel?
Yes — a Dal Lake houseboat can replace one or more hotel nights in Srinagar, and it's a genuinely different, memorable way to experience the lake. Let us know when you enquire and we'll price it in.
Are flights included?
No — international and domestic flights into Srinagar aren't included unless stated in your quote. We can advise on convenient routings and arrange your airport transfers to match your flights.
