You'll cruise the Tien River by sampan into narrow coconut-palm canals, step off at a working orchard or honey farm, and watch traders haggle from boat to boat at first light. Along the way sits the everyday texture of the delta — village markets, rice-paper and rice-noodle workshops, a riverside pagoda blending Vietnamese and European style — the kind of detail a self-drive day trip usually misses.

What you'll actually see
Cai Rang floating market at dawn
The largest and busiest floating market in the delta, on the water just outside Can Tho. Hundreds of wholesale boats gather from before sunrise, each hanging a sample of its cargo from a tall pole — the delta's own version of a shop sign — while smaller boats weave between them selling coffee and noodle soup for breakfast on the water.
Coconut canals by sampan
A hand-rowed sampan carries you off the main river and into the delta's narrow, shaded canals — too tight for larger boats — past stilt houses, fruit orchards and water coconut palms. It's the slowest, and most rewarding, way to see how the region actually lives.
Village life & craft workshops
Stops at small family workshops along the way — coconut candy simmered in open woks, rice paper laid out to dry in the sun, and honey-bee farms where you can sample tea brewed with fresh honey and pollen — give a hands-on look at how the delta earns its living.
Ho Chi Minh City's landmarks
Before the delta, a guided morning through the city itself — the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica and old Central Post Office, the Reunification Palace, and the covered stalls of Ben Thanh Market — set against the energy of Vietnam's largest city.
Your 6-day itinerary
City first, then two full days in the delta, with breakfast daily and all listed transfers included.
You're met at Tan Son Nhat International Airport and transferred to your centrally located hotel. Settle in, then ease into the city at your own pace — District 1's rooftop bars, street-food stalls and night markets are all within easy reach for a relaxed first evening.
After breakfast, a guided tour through the city's key sights: the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica and the ornate Central Post Office beside it, the Reunification Palace grounds, and a walk through the covered stalls of Ben Thanh Market. The afternoon is free — stay in the city centre or add an optional half-day at the Cu Chi Tunnels.
An early check-out for the drive to My Tho, gateway to the delta. Board a boat on the Tien River to Unicorn Island, then switch to a hand-rowed sampan through narrow coconut canals. Along the way: a coconut-candy workshop, a taste of honey tea with traditional music, and a visit to Vinh Trang Pagoda — a riverside temple that blends Vietnamese, French and Khmer architectural styles. Overnight in the delta.
A morning transfer to Can Tho, the delta's largest city. After checking in, an easy afternoon exploring on foot — Ninh Kieu wharf and its walking bridge, the riverside promenade, and Can Tho's covered market for local produce and street food. As evening falls, the wharf lights up and floating restaurants set up along the Hau River.
A pre-dawn departure by boat from Ninh Kieu wharf to reach Cai Rang while trading is at its busiest, with coffee and a bowl of noodle soup bought straight from a passing boat. Afterwards, glide through quieter backwater canals to a rice-noodle workshop and a riverside fruit orchard, before returning to Can Tho by late morning. The afternoon is free, or transfer back towards Ho Chi Minh City ahead of departure.

Before you go
Best time to visit
The delta is warm year-round, with a wetter season roughly May to November and a drier one from December to April. The dry season is generally more comfortable for boat trips and canal rides — we'll advise on timing for your dates when you enquire.
Currency
The Vietnamese Dong (VND). Cards are widely accepted in Ho Chi Minh City hotels and malls; carry cash in the delta, where markets and small vendors are cash-only.
Cai Rang starts early
The floating market is at its busiest between roughly 5:30 and 8am, so the Day 5 boat trip departs before sunrise. It's an early start, but the light and the trading atmosphere are worth it — a light jacket helps for the cool ride out.
Getting around the canals
Larger river boats switch to smaller, hand-rowed sampans to reach the narrower canals — seating is close to the waterline. Life jackets are provided; wear footwear you don't mind getting slightly wet at boat landings.
What to pack
Light, breathable clothing, a hat, sun protection, insect repellent, a light rain layer and a reusable water bottle. Modest cover-ups are handy for pagoda visits.

Why does the Cai Rang market trip start so early?
Trading at Cai Rang peaks between around 5:30 and 8am, before the heat sets in and before many boats head home. An early departure from Ninh Kieu wharf gets you there while it's at its most colourful and least crowded with other tour boats.
Are international flights included?
No — international flights aren't included unless we've specifically stated so in your quote. Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat Airport is well connected internationally; we arrange your airport transfers to match your flight times.
