Pokhara Himalayan Escape
Five unhurried days by Phewa Lake and above it — a sunrise hike to Sarangkot for the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre range in golden light, a boat ride to the island temple, and enough open time to simply sit lakeside with the mountains in view. Transfers, hotels and guided sightseeing are handled for you.
The Himalayas, without the trek
Pokhara is Nepal's answer to travellers who want the Himalayas in view without weeks on a trail. Set around Phewa Lake, the country's most-visited lake, with the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges rising directly behind it, the city delivers genuine mountain scenery on an easy, walkable, well-serviced base. This five-day escape uses that setting on purpose — one dedicated lake day, one dedicated sunrise day, and real breathing room in between.
The centrepiece is Sarangkot, the hilltop above the city at roughly 1,600 metres, reached by an early drive, where the sunrise lights up Machhapuchhre's unmistakable fishtail peak and the wider Annapurna massif. Down at the water, a wooden doonga boat crosses to the Tal Barahi temple on its own island in Phewa Lake, and the white World Peace Pagoda looks back over the valley from the far shore. Beyond the two headline mornings, the pace is intentionally loose — this is a trip built for lakeside cafés and mountain views, not a packed checklist.
Airport transfers, centrally located lakeside accommodation, daily breakfast and the sightseeing above are arranged for you. Want to add an extra night, upgrade the hotel, or bolt on optional paragliding over the lake? Every element here is a starting point, not a fixed script.
What you'll actually see
Sunrise over the Annapurnas from Sarangkot
An early drive up to the Sarangkot viewpoint, roughly 1,600m above the valley, timed for first light on Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri and the fishtail summit of Machhapuchhre. It's the single most-recommended morning in Pokhara — clear-season conditions permitting.
Phewa Lake & the Tal Barahi temple
Nepal's most-visited lake, with the Annapurna range reflected on calm mornings. A short wooden doonga boat ride crosses to the two-storey Tal Barahi pagoda on its own mid-lake island — the spiritual heart of Pokhara's Lakeside.
Mountain views from the World Peace Pagoda
A white Buddhist stupa on the forested ridge across the lake, reached by boat and a short climb, with a panorama over Phewa Lake, Pokhara city and the Annapurna skyline from its terrace.
Leisure time, genuinely built in
One full unscheduled day for the lakeside cafés, a slow walk along the water, or simply sitting with the mountains in view — the point of this itinerary as much as the sightseeing is.
Your 5-day itinerary
Two mornings built around the headline views, one full day left open on purpose, with breakfast daily and all listed transfers included.
You're met at Pokhara International Airport and transferred to your hotel on the Phewa Lake shore. Settle in, then ease into the city at your own pace — Lakeside's café strip and the water are both a short walk away, with the first mountain views often visible before you've even unpacked.
After breakfast, a wooden doonga boat ride out onto Phewa Lake to the Tal Barahi temple, the pagoda-style shrine that sits on its own small island — accessible no other way. From there, cross to the far shore and climb the short trail to the World Peace Pagoda for a wide panorama over the lake, the city and the Annapurna skyline. Return to Lakeside for the evening.
A pre-dawn transfer up to the Sarangkot viewpoint, timed to reach the summit deck before first light. As the sun rises, it catches the Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri and Machhapuchhre's fishtail peak in turn, with Phewa Lake and the Pokhara valley laid out below. Return to the hotel for a late breakfast; the rest of the day is free to rest, or add optional tandem paragliding from the same ridge.
A full day with nothing scheduled, on purpose. Linger over breakfast with the mountains in view, walk the Lakeside promenade, browse the shops and cafés, or simply sit by the water. Prefer it structured instead? We can add a short outing to Devi's Fall and the Gupteshwor cave, a spa afternoon, or an extra lake crossing — just tell us your pace.
Enjoy a final breakfast and, depending on your flight, a little free time for last-minute shopping or a relaxed morning by the lake. You're then transferred to the airport for your onward journey — or, if you'd like to extend, we can add nights in Pokhara or link this trip to a wider Nepal itinerary.
Indicative itinerary. The exact order of activities, sightseeing and transfer times is confirmed at the time of booking and may adapt to flight schedules, weather and local conditions. Sunrise visibility from Sarangkot depends on clear skies and can never be guaranteed.

Before you go
Best time to visit
Pokhara is warm year-round with a wetter monsoon roughly June to August. The clearer autumn and spring seasons give the best odds of an unobstructed mountain view from Sarangkot — we'll advise on timing for your dates when you enquire.
Currency
The Nepalese Rupee (NPR). Cards are accepted in Lakeside's larger hotels and restaurants; carry cash for boat hire, entrance fees, tea shops and small vendors.
The sunrise view isn't guaranteed
Sarangkot's panorama depends on clear skies. Autumn and spring give the best odds, but cloud and haze can obscure the range on any given morning — no responsible operator can promise a clear sunrise, only the best possible timing for one.
Getting to Sarangkot
The drive from Lakeside takes roughly 30–40 minutes on winding hill roads, timed to arrive before dawn. Dress warmly — it's noticeably cooler at 1,600m before sunrise, even when Pokhara itself feels mild.
What to pack
A warm layer for the pre-dawn Sarangkot trip, light breathable clothing for the day, comfortable walking shoes, sun protection and a reusable water bottle. A change of footwear you don't mind getting wet is handy for the boat crossings.
Visas & documents
Nepal offers visa-on-arrival for many nationalities at the international airport, with fees payable in cash or card, but requirements do vary by passport. Please check based on your nationality before you travel — we're happy to point you to the right official source.
Pokhara, from lakeside to summit
Good to have answered
Is the US$599 price per person? What does it cover?
Yes — that's a starting price, per person, for the 5-day itinerary based on twin-share accommodation. It covers your hotel, daily breakfast, airport and listed transfers, the sightseeing in the itinerary, selected entrance fees and local assistance. The final figure depends on your travel dates, hotel choice, group size and whether you'd like it private, so we confirm an exact quote when you enquire.
Will we definitely see the mountains from Sarangkot?
We time the visit for the best odds — early morning, clear-season dates where possible — and the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre range is visible on most mornings across autumn and spring. But this is open-air mountain viewing, dependent on weather no operator controls, so a clear sunrise can never be guaranteed. Sarangkot's café and viewing-deck setting still makes the trip worthwhile even on a hazier morning.
Is paragliding included?
No — Sarangkot is one of the world's best-known paragliding launch points, and tandem flights can be added as an optional extra on Day 3 with a licensed local operator, paid locally or arranged in advance through us. It isn't part of the base package price.
Are international flights included?
No — international flights aren't included unless we've specifically stated so in your quote. Pokhara is reached via Kathmandu or on direct regional routings; we can advise on convenient connections and arrange your airport transfers to match your flights.
Can this itinerary be customised or run privately?
Absolutely — this is a template, not a fixed package. Run it fully private, add nights, upgrade the hotel, swap the free day for Devi's Fall and the Gupteshwor cave, or extend into a wider Nepal trip via Kathmandu or Chitwan. Tell us what you have in mind and we'll shape it around you.
How much walking is involved?
It's a comfortable, low-effort trip for most travellers. Lakeside and the boat crossings involve easy strolling; the walk up to the World Peace Pagoda is a short, moderate climb; and Sarangkot's viewpoint is reached mostly by vehicle, with just a short walk to the deck. There's no trekking on this itinerary.
Do I need a visa for Nepal?
It depends on your nationality. Many travellers can arrange a visa-on-arrival at the international airport, but requirements change and vary by passport. Please verify based on your own nationality before you travel — we're glad to point you to the right official source.
How do I book or get a quote?
Send us an enquiry with your rough dates and traveller numbers and we'll come back with a tailored quote and next steps. There's no obligation, and no payment needed to get a proposal.
