Forts, palaces and desert cities — the classic Rajasthan route
Rajasthan is India's largest state and its most theatrical — a land of maharajas, hilltop forts and cities that still wear their royal colours. This nine-day journey begins in Delhi, the Mughal capital of red sandstone monuments, then moves through three of Rajasthan's most iconic cities: pink-washed Jaipur, indigo-lined Jodhpur beneath its clifftop fort, and lakeside Udaipur, the most romantic of India's royal cities.
You'll climb through the hilltop courtyards of Amber Fort and its mirrored Sheesh Mahal, look out from the honeycomb windows of Jaipur's Hawa Mahal, wander the blue lanes beneath the ramparts of Mehrangarh — one of India's largest and best-preserved forts — and take a boat across Lake Pichola to the marble City Palace of Udaipur. In Delhi, Old and New sit side by side: the Mughal-era Red Fort and Qutub Minar alongside the wide boulevards of the colonial capital.

Delhi's Mughal monuments
The red sandstone Red Fort, seat of the Mughal emperors for two centuries, and the 12th-century Qutub Minar — two of Delhi's three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, alongside the wide boulevards of colonial New Delhi.
Jaipur, the Pink City
The hilltop Amber Fort and its mirrored Sheesh Mahal, the honeycomb façade of Hawa Mahal with its 953 windows, and the City Palace — all UNESCO-listed and painted in the dusky pink that gives Jaipur its name.
Jodhpur, the Blue City
Mehrangarh Fort, one of India's largest and best-preserved forts, towering over a sea of indigo-painted houses in the old town below — best explored on foot through the narrow blue lanes.
Udaipur, the City of Lakes
The marble-and-granite City Palace on the shore of Lake Pichola, a boat ride across the water to the Lake Palace and Jag Mandir, and views of the Aravalli Hills that make Udaipur Rajasthan's most romantic stop.

You're met at Indira Gandhi International Airport and transferred to your centrally located hotel. Settle in and rest after your flight, or ease into the city with an evening stroll near your hotel.
A guided day through both faces of Delhi. In Old Delhi, the Red Fort — Shah Jahan's red sandstone seat of power for two centuries — and the 12th-century Qutub Minar, Delhi's tallest minaret. In New Delhi, the ceremonial boulevard of Rajpath, India Gate and the government quarter built under British rule.
A road transfer south to Jaipur, Rajasthan's capital (around five to six hours, with stops en route). On arrival, settle into your hotel with the evening free to explore the pink-washed streets of the old city on your own.
A morning at Amber Fort, the hilltop fortress-palace overlooking Maota Lake, including the dazzling mirror-work of the Sheesh Mahal. In the afternoon, the City Palace complex in the heart of Jaipur, and a stop at the honeycomb façade of Hawa Mahal — the Palace of Winds — for photographs from the street below.
A road transfer west to Jodhpur (around five hours). Rajasthan's second-largest city sits at the edge of the Thar Desert, its old town a sea of indigo-blue houses beneath the walls of Mehrangarh Fort.
A guided morning at Mehrangarh Fort — one of India's largest forts, with well-preserved palaces, museums and royal artefacts, and sweeping views over the blue rooftops below. In the afternoon, a walk through the narrow lanes of the old town, among the indigo-painted houses that give Jodhpur its name.
A road transfer south to Udaipur (around five to six hours), Rajasthan's most romantic city, framed by the Aravalli Hills and built around a chain of lakes.
A morning at the City Palace, a sprawling complex of marble and granite overlooking Lake Pichola, followed by an afternoon boat ride on the lake past the Lake Palace and Jag Mandir. The evening is left free for the rooftop restaurants Udaipur is known for.
Enjoy a final breakfast before transferring to Udaipur's Maharana Pratap Airport for your onward or connecting flight. Prefer to extend into Agra for the Taj Mahal, or add a wildlife stop in Ranthambore? We can build that in.

Before you go
Best time to visit
Rajasthan is best from October to March, when daytime temperatures are comfortable for sightseeing. Summers (April–June) are extremely hot, and the monsoon (July–September) brings humidity. We'll advise on timing for your dates.
Currency
The Indian Rupee (INR / ₹). Cards are accepted in most hotels and larger shops; carry cash for markets, small vendors and monument entrance fees.
Getting between cities
This itinerary moves by road between Delhi, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur — the classic overland Rajasthan route. Each drive is a half-day or so; we can add flights on any leg if you'd prefer to save time.
Visas & documents
Most nationalities need a visa for India, commonly arranged in advance through the e-Visa scheme — this is not a visa-free destination for most travellers, so apply well ahead of your trip. Requirements vary by passport; we're happy to point you to the right source.
Dress code
Modest, breathable clothing suits both the temples and forts and Rajasthan's climate — shoulders and knees covered is a safe rule at religious sites. Comfortable walking shoes matter, as fort visits involve stairs and uneven stone.

Yes — that's a starting price, per person, for the 9-day itinerary based on twin-share accommodation. It covers your hotels across all four cities, daily breakfast, airport and listed intercity transfers, the sightseeing in the itinerary, selected entrance fees and local assistance. The final figure depends on your travel dates, hotel choice, group size and whether you'd like it private, so we confirm an exact quote when you enquire.
How do we travel between Delhi, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur?
This itinerary runs by road throughout, with a private vehicle and driver for each intercity leg — a half-day's drive or so between each city. If you'd prefer to save time, we can swap any leg for a short domestic flight; let us know and we'll adjust the quote.
Do I need a visa for India?
Most nationalities need a visa for India — commonly an e-Visa arranged online before you travel, rather than on arrival. Requirements and processing times vary by passport, so we recommend applying well ahead of your trip. We're glad to point you to the right official source.
Are international flights included?
No — international flights aren't included unless we've specifically stated so in your quote. We can advise on convenient arrival times into Delhi and departure from Udaipur, and arrange your airport transfers to match your flights.
Can this itinerary be customised, or extended to Agra for the Taj Mahal?
Absolutely — this is a template, not a fixed package. Agra and the Taj Mahal are a natural add-on between Delhi and Jaipur, and we can also add nights, upgrade hotels, or run the whole trip fully private. Tell us what you have in mind and we'll shape the route around it.
How much walking is involved?
Fort visits involve stairs, slopes and uneven stone underfoot — Amber Fort, Mehrangarh and the City Palace complexes all ask for a reasonable level of mobility. The pace is otherwise comfortable, and guides can adjust to a slower speed on request.
