Overview

Singapore, at a slower and greener pace

Singapore's skyline gets the postcards, but its gardens are the reason so many travellers fall for the city on their second or third visit. This five-day itinerary is built around that side of it — the engineered rainforest of Gardens by the Bay, the quiet, colonial-era calm of the Botanic Gardens, and a half-day boat trip out to the Southern Islands, where the pace drops and the city disappears behind you.

You'll walk beneath the Supertrees after dark, step inside a climate-controlled cloud forest with an indoor waterfall, wander three hectares of orchids in the National Orchid Garden, and swap the CBD for sand, jetties and mangrove on St John's and Lazarus Island. Marina Bay, the Merlion and Singapore's famous food scene are woven through, so it never feels like nature at the expense of the city — just a more considered way to see both.

Airport transfers, centrally located accommodation, daily breakfast and guided sightseeing are arranged for you. Want it fully private, extended by a night in Sentosa, or built around a specific garden festival date? Every element here can be tailored — this itinerary is the starting point, not the ceiling.

Highlights

What you'll actually see

The Supertree Grove, by day and after dark

Eighteen vertical gardens up to 16 storeys tall, planted with ferns, orchids and bromeliads and wired to collect rainwater and solar power for the conservatories below. Walk among them at ground level, cross the elevated OCBC Skyway between the tallest trees, and stay on for the light-and-sound show once the sun goes down.

Cloud Forest & Flower Dome

Two of the world's largest column-free glasshouses, cooled year-round. The Cloud Forest wraps a 35-metre mountain and indoor waterfall in mist and tropical highland planting; the Flower Dome swings through seasonal displays from Mediterranean groves to baobabs, all in air-conditioned comfort.

The National Orchid Garden

Three hectares on the highest hill of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, holding one of the world's largest orchid displays — over 1,000 species and 2,000 hybrids, arranged by colour across the four seasons, inside Singapore's only UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A boat out to the Southern Islands

A short ferry from the mainland to St John's and Lazarus Island — connected by a causeway, ringed by lagoons and largely free of the city's pace. Swim, walk the shoreline trails, or just sit somewhere quiet with Singapore's skyline on the horizon instead of overhead.

Day by Day

Your 5-day itinerary

City, gardens and islands in a balanced sequence, with breakfast daily and all listed transfers included.

1Day
Arrival — Welcome to Singapore

You're met at Changi Airport and transferred to your centrally located hotel. Settle in, then ease into the city — Marina Bay is a short walk or ride from most central hotels, and a first evening at the waterfront, with the Merlion, the Marina Bay Sands skyline and dinner at a nearby hawker centre, is the easiest way to get your bearings.

2Day
Gardens by the Bay — Supertrees, domes and skyline views

A full day at Gardens by the Bay: the Cloud Forest's misted mountain and indoor waterfall, the seasonal blooms of the Flower Dome, and a walk through the Supertree Grove, including the elevated OCBC Skyway between the tallest trees. Stay through early evening for the Garden Rhapsody light-and-sound show beneath the Supertrees before heading back for the night.

3Day
Botanic Gardens & Marina Bay — Orchids and the old town

Morning at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with time in the National Orchid Garden and its colour-coded seasonal displays. In the afternoon, a guided walk around Marina Bay and the Merlion, taking in the Helix Bridge, the Esplanade and the CBD skyline from across the water, with a stop for a proper Singapore meal — think chilli crab or a hawker centre spread.

4Day
Southern Islands — St John's & Lazarus Island

A short ferry ride from the mainland to St John's Island, connected by a causeway to Lazarus Island. Spend the day on quiet lagoon beaches and shoreline trails, away from the crowds of the main island, with Singapore's skyline visible across the water. Bring your own swimwear and sun protection — facilities on the islands are basic by design.

5Day
Departure — Until next time

Enjoy a final breakfast and, depending on your flight, a little free time for last-minute shopping at Orchard Road or a relaxed morning in the Botanic Gardens. You're then transferred to Changi Airport for your onward journey — or, if you'd like to extend, we can add nights on Sentosa or link this trip to a wider Southeast Asia itinerary.

Good to Know

Before you go

Best time to visit

Singapore is warm, humid and tropical year-round, with heavier showers roughly November to January. Any month works for this itinerary — most attractions here are indoors or shaded, and short afternoon downpours pass quickly.

Currency

The Singapore Dollar (SGD / S$). Cards and contactless payment are accepted almost everywhere, including hawker centres, though it's worth carrying a little cash for smaller stalls and the island ferries.

Getting around

The MRT train network is fast, air-conditioned and covers most of what you'll want to see, with Gardens by the Bay, the Botanic Gardens and Marina Bay all a short ride from central hotels. Taxis and ride-hailing apps are widely available and inexpensive by international standards.

Getting to the Southern Islands

St John's and Lazarus Island are reached by a scheduled ferry from the mainland — there's no bridge. Facilities on the islands are basic (toilets and some shelters, but limited food options), so pack water, snacks, sun protection and swimwear for the day.

What to pack

Light, breathable clothing, comfortable walking shoes, a light rain layer for sudden showers, sun protection and a reusable water bottle — most attractions have refill points. A light jacket is worth having for air-conditioned interiors, which run cool.

Visas & documents

Entry requirements depend on your passport. Many nationalities can enter Singapore visa-free for short stays via the Electronic Arrival Card, but please check based on your nationality — we're happy to point you to the right official source.

Questions

Good to have answered

Is the US$899 price per person? What does it cover?

Yes — that's a starting price, per person, for the 5-day itinerary based on twin-share accommodation. It covers your hotel, daily breakfast, airport and listed transfers, the sightseeing in the itinerary, selected entrance fees and local assistance. The final figure depends on your travel dates, hotel choice, group size and whether you'd like it private, so we confirm an exact quote when you enquire.

Do we need a full day for Gardens by the Bay?

It's worth it if you want to see both conservatories properly and stay for the evening light show under the Supertrees. If your schedule is tighter, we can compress this into a half-day focused on the Cloud Forest and Supertree Grove and use the freed time elsewhere — tell us your priorities and we'll adjust the pacing.

Are international flights included?

No — international flights aren't included unless we've specifically stated so in your quote. Singapore's Changi Airport is one of the best-connected hubs in the region; we can advise on convenient routings and arrange your airport transfers to match your flights.

What's the Southern Islands day actually like?

Low-key by design. A short ferry crossing, then a day of lagoon beaches, shoreline trails and a causeway walk between St John's and Lazarus Island, with basic facilities and none of the crowds you'll find on Sentosa. Bring swimwear, sun protection, water and snacks — food options on the islands are limited.

Can this itinerary be customised or run privately?

Absolutely — this is a template, not a fixed package. Run it fully private, add nights on Sentosa, upgrade the hotel, or extend into a wider Southeast Asia trip. Tell us what you have in mind and we'll shape it around you.

Do I need a visa for Singapore?

It depends on your nationality. Many travellers can enter visa-free for short stays via Singapore's Electronic Arrival Card, but requirements change, so please verify based on your own passport before you travel — we're glad to point you to the right official source.

How do I book or get a quote?

Send us an enquiry with your rough dates and traveller numbers and we'll come back with a tailored quote and next steps. There's no obligation, and no payment needed to get a proposal.
