You'll begin on Colombo's seafront, climb into the hills to Kandy's sacred Temple of the Tooth, ride one of the world's most celebrated train journeys through tea estates and misty valleys to Ella, then wind down to the south coast — Galle's Dutch-era fort and the beaches and whale-watching waters around Mirissa — before flying home from Colombo.

A UNESCO World Heritage site in the royal palace complex of the old hill capital, and one of Buddhism's most revered pilgrimage sites, housing a relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Visit during a puja ritual for the sound of drums and the scent of incense drifting through the temple's inner chambers.
The Kandy–Ella hill-country train
Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world — hours of tea estates, cloud forest and misty gorges, crossing viaducts and threading tunnels on the way to Ella. Book your seats well ahead; the observation and first-class carriages are popular for good reason.
Ella and the Nine Arch Bridge
A laid-back hill town wrapped in tea gardens, with the century-old stone Nine Arch Bridge as its icon — best seen from below as a train crosses overhead — and Little Adam's Peak a gentle sunrise or sunset walk away.
The south coast — Galle and Mirissa
A walk along the ramparts of Galle's 17th-century Dutch fort at golden hour, then days unwound on the beach at Mirissa, one of the island's best-known spots for spotting whales and dolphins offshore.

Hill country first, coast last — so the trip builds toward slow beach days, with breakfast daily and all listed transfers included.
You're met at Bandaranaike International Airport and transferred to your Colombo hotel. Settle in and, as the day cools, take an evening stroll along Galle Face Green — the seafront promenade where locals gather for kite-flying, street snacks and sunset over the Indian Ocean.
Drive inland to Kandy, Sri Lanka's last royal capital, with a stop en route at a spice garden to see the cinnamon, cardamom and pepper the island is famous for. In Kandy, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, then round off the evening with a Kandyan cultural dance performance and its dramatic closing fire-walking display.
Continue up into the highlands to Nuwara Eliya, nicknamed "Little England" for its cool climate and colonial-era bungalows, and the heart of Ceylon tea production. Visit a working tea estate and factory to see the leaves picked, rolled and dried, and taste a fresh cup with the plantation views laid out below you.
Board the celebrated hill-country train from Nanu Oya station for the ride to Ella — several hours of tea plantations rolling to the horizon, viaducts over misty gorges and tunnels through the hillside, with open windows and doors for the full effect. Settle into Ella by the afternoon, with the evening free to explore the town's rooftop cafes.
A gentle day built around Ella's icons: the walk down to the Nine Arch Bridge, timed if you like for a passing train, and the short, rewarding hike up Little Adam's Peak for panoramic views over the tea-covered hills — a good spot for sunrise or a quiet sunset together. The rest of the day is yours to slow down.
Drive south from the hills down to the coast, arriving at your beach hotel near Galle or Mirissa in time to freshen up. As the light softens, walk the ramparts of Galle Fort — a UNESCO-listed 17th-century Dutch stronghold of cobbled lanes, boutique shops and a lighthouse — for one of the south coast's best sunset views.
A full day to do as little or as much as you like. Mirissa's curved bay is built for slow mornings and long lunches by the water, with an optional early-morning boat trip for a chance to see whales and dolphins offshore — best between roughly November and April, and never guaranteed, since these are wild animals in open ocean.
Enjoy a final relaxed breakfast by the ocean before your transfer back to Colombo for your onward flight — around two to three hours from the south coast, depending on traffic. If you'd like to extend, we can add nights on the coast, a safari in Yala or Udawalawe, or a night in Colombo before you fly.

Before you go
Best time to visit
The south-west coast and hill country are generally driest from December to March; the east coast has its own dry season roughly May to September. We'll advise on the best routing and timing for your travel dates.
Currency
The Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR). Cards are widely accepted in hotels and larger restaurants in Colombo, Kandy and the south coast; carry some cash for markets, tuk-tuks and small vendors.
Temple etiquette
At the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and other religious sites, shoulders and knees should be covered and shoes removed before entering. Loose, light layers work well for both temple visits and hill-country evenings.
Booking the scenic train
Observation and first-class seats on the Kandy–Ella line sell out weeks in advance, especially in peak season. We recommend confirming your dates as early as possible so we can secure your preferred seating.

Yes — that's a starting price, per person, for the 8-day itinerary based on twin-share accommodation. It covers your hotels, daily breakfast, airport and listed transfers, the sightseeing in the itinerary, selected entrance fees and local assistance. The final figure depends on your travel dates, hotel choice and any honeymoon upgrades, so we confirm an exact quote when you enquire.
Can you add honeymoon touches like a room upgrade or a private dinner?
Yes — tell us it's a honeymoon when you enquire and we'll look at what your chosen hotels can arrange, from room upgrades to private dining, and build it into your quote. We don't add anything by default that isn't confirmed and priced with you first.
Do I need to book the scenic train in advance?
We recommend it. Observation and first-class carriages on the Kandy–Ella line are popular and can sell out weeks ahead, especially in peak season. Confirming your travel dates early gives us the best chance of securing your preferred seating.
Will we definitely see whales or dolphins at Mirissa?
Sightings are common in season but never guaranteed — these are wild animals in open ocean. Whale and dolphin watching is offered as an optional add-on rather than a fixed inclusion, so you can decide when you're there, weather and swell permitting.
Are international flights included?
No — international flights aren't included unless we've specifically stated so in your quote. Colombo is well connected from Australia via Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or the Middle East; we can advise on convenient routings.
