Thailand is one of the easiest long-haul destinations to take children to — short flights inside the country, familiar comforts alongside real adventure, and an enormous range of things built specifically for kids. This eight-day journey splits the trip in two: four days in Bangkok built around wildlife and river life, then four days in Phuket built around the beach, the islands and an ethical elephant encounter.
Rather than rushing between temples, the Bangkok half leans into what genuinely lands with children — a gentle look at the Grand Palace and a longtail boat ride on the Chao Phraya, then a full day at Safari World's drive-through Savannah and Marine Park shows. In Phuket, mornings with rescued elephants (fed and bathed, never ridden) sit alongside beach afternoons and a family boat day out to the limestone islands of Phang Nga Bay.

Four days in Bangkok, four in Phuket, with a domestic flight between them — breakfast daily and every listed transfer included.
You're met at Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang Airport and transferred to your family-friendly hotel in central Bangkok. Settle in and let the kids decompress from the flight — there's no sightseeing scheduled today, just an easy first evening and, if energy allows, dinner nearby.
A kid-paced morning at the Grand Palace and Wat Arun, kept short and visual rather than a long historical walkthrough, followed by a longtail boat ride along the Chao Phraya River — a genuine highlight for most children, gliding past temples, floating vendors and daily river life.
A full day at Safari World: the drive-through Safari Park first, where giraffes, zebras and big cats roam close to the vehicle, followed by Marine Park's dolphin, sea lion and bird shows in the afternoon. Bring a bucket-list moment for the kids — and expect them to be tired by dinner, in the best way.
A free morning — an easy indoor option like an aquarium or family mall works well if anyone needs a break from the heat — before your transfer to the airport for the short domestic flight to Phuket. On arrival, transfer to your beachside hotel and settle in for the second half of the trip.
A morning with rescued elephants at a sanctuary built around feeding, walking and bathing rather than riding or performing — a calmer, more genuine wildlife experience than most kids have had before. The afternoon is free for the beach, with sunbeds and easy swimming close to your hotel.
A family-friendly boat day through Phang Nga Bay's dramatic limestone karsts, sea caves and mangrove channels, stopping at Khao Phing Kan — better known as James Bond Island — with time for sea canoeing where conditions allow. Big scenery, short walks, plenty for kids to point at.
A day with nothing booked — the point of building in downtime on a family trip. Stay at the beach, try a gentle water activity, or add an optional visit to Phuket's aquarium or Old Town if the weather turns. We're happy to book any of it in advance if you'd rather have it planned.
A final breakfast and, depending on your flight, a last swim or some easy time by the pool. You're then transferred to Phuket International Airport for your onward journey — or, if you'd like to extend, we can add island time in Krabi or Koh Samui, or a few days in Chiang Mai.

Before you go
Best time to visit
Thailand's cool, dry season runs roughly November to February, with the most comfortable temperatures for full days outdoors at Safari World and around the islands. March to May is hot; the wetter southwest monsoon runs roughly June to October.
Currency
The Thai Baht (THB). Cards are widely accepted in hotels, malls and larger attractions in Bangkok and Phuket; carry some cash for markets, small vendors and beach-side stalls.
Bangkok ↔ Phuket
The two halves of this trip are linked by a short domestic flight, roughly 80–90 minutes, included as part of your intercity transfers. Exact carrier and timing are confirmed once your travel dates are set.
Ethical animal encounters
The elephant experience in this itinerary is feeding, walking and bathing only — no riding, and no performance-style shows. If your family prefers a different balance of wildlife activities, we can adjust this before booking.
What to pack
Light, breathable clothing, swimwear, sun protection, insect repellent, a rain layer for sudden showers, and any essentials for young children — pharmacies are easy to find in both cities, but familiar items are worth bringing.
Visas & documents
Entry requirements depend on your passport, and children usually need their own valid passport even when travelling with parents. Many nationalities enter Thailand visa-free for short stays, but please check based on each traveller's nationality — we're happy to point you to the right source.

Yes — that's a starting price, per person, for the 8-day itinerary based on twin-share accommodation. It covers your hotels in Bangkok and Phuket, daily breakfast, airport and intercity transfers (including the domestic flight sector), the sightseeing in the itinerary, selected entrance fees and local assistance. The final figure depends on your travel dates, hotel choice, group size and children's ages, so we confirm an exact quote when you enquire.
Is the Bangkok–Phuket flight actually included?
Yes — the short domestic flight linking the two halves of this itinerary is included as part of your intercity transfers, along with the transfers to and from each airport. International flights to and from Thailand are not included unless we've specifically stated so in your quote.
Do the kids ride the elephants?
No. The elephant encounter in this itinerary is built around feeding, walking alongside and bathing rescued elephants — there's no riding and no performance-style show. Families who'd like a different mix of wildlife activities can tell us and we'll adjust the day before booking.
Is this itinerary suitable for young children?
It's built with a broad age range in mind — the cultural sightseeing is kept short, the animal and boat days are naturally engaging for most children, and there are free afternoons and a full unscheduled day so nobody is over-tired. For toddlers or a large family group, tell us the ages and we'll fine-tune the pacing and hotel choice.
Are the boat trips and beaches safe for kids?
The Phang Nga Bay day uses licensed local boat operators and life jackets are provided and worn by children throughout. Beach conditions in Phuket vary by season and by beach — we'll advise on the calmer, more sheltered options for your travel dates when you enquire.
Can this itinerary be customised or run privately?
Absolutely — this is a template, not a fixed package. Run it fully private, add nights in either city, upgrade to a resort with a kids' club, swap Safari World for a different attraction, or extend into Krabi, Koh Samui or Chiang Mai. Do I need a visa for Thailand, and do kids need their own passport?
It depends on your nationality — many travellers enter Thailand visa-free for short stays, but requirements do change. Children generally need their own valid passport even when travelling on a family trip.
